The Mermaid

The other day I was reminiscing with my granddaughter Annika (she’s four years old) about our respective childhoods. She told me some things that I couldn’t quite remember happening.
I started our conversation by telling her that, as a small boy, I had gone to the circus and that I had seen a clown unfold himself out of a tiny little car. She told me that she had gone to the circus and saw a twenty five foot giant pick up two elephants! I told her that her Great Grandma and Grandpa had taken me on vacation to Texas and that I had met a real cowboy. She told me that she had gotten to ride a jet plane to the moon and that she had seen a space moister hiding behind a rock! I had found a record player in the dump, she had found a diamond ring in the dump. I had gone fishing with my Uncle George and caught three crappie. She stopped talking for a few moments, poked at a bug in the dirt and then she swore me to secrecy. Just last week she had been at the pacific ocean walking along the beach with some of her friends who were fairies as they spied sand castles and a beautiful mermaid who had just finished building it.
I think I have figured out that Annika’s childhood has been much more interesting than mine was.
